5th Edition Advanced Mode
Limiting the power of a character and making the overall difficulty of the game harder, does not reduce the creativity, indeed it does quite the opposite.
The Game Master has the option to use any and all of the instances proposed in this guide, or just some of them according to their preference.

It is the lack of something that move and motivate characters, not the abundance of it

DESCRIPTION

An Annis Hag is a fearsome type of fey that resembles a monstrous, blue-skinned giantess with iron claws and teeth. She is the largest and most powerful of all the hags, standing seven to eight feet tall. Her hair, teeth, and nails are glossy black, and her eyes are dull green or yellow. She often disguises herself as a kindly old woman, a fair maiden, a tall human, an ogre, or even a small giant to lure unsuspecting victims into her traps. She can also use her magic to create illusions, manipulate emotions, and curse her enemies.

COMBAT

An Annis Hag is a formidable opponent in combat, using her immense strength and iron claws to rend flesh and crush bones. She can also hurl rocks or debris at her foes, or grapple them with her powerful grip. She is resistant to cold and nonmagical weapons, and can regenerate some of her wounds. She can also use her innate spellcasting to cast spells such as disguise self, fog cloud, hold person, phantasmal killer, ray of enfeeblement, and bane. She can cast fog cloud three times per day to confuse resistance or to delay attack by a superior foe.

An Annis Hag is even more dangerous when she forms a coven with two other hags, usually of different types. A coven can share spells and abilities, and can use a hag eye to spy on their enemies. A hag eye is a magical gemstone that acts as a scrying device, but can be destroyed by damaging it or dispelling its magic. A coven can also cast more powerful spells such as bestow curse, counterspell, eye bite, forcecage, and polymorph.

HABITAT / SOCIETY

An Annis Hag prefers to live in dark and isolated places, such as caves, ruins, swamps, or forests. She often decorates her lair with the bones and skins of her victims, and keeps a stash of treasure and trinkets that she collects or steals. She sometimes allies herself with other evil creatures, such as ogres, trolls, or goblins, who serve as her minions or guards. She may also kidnap children and raise them as her own, either to eat them later or to turn them into new hags. She speaks her own language, as well as ogre, all evil giant tongues, and some common. Some of the most intelligent annis can speak common fluently and know a smattering of various demihuman languages.

An Annis Hag is usually solitary, but may join a coven with two other hags for mutual benefit. A coven is not a true friendship, but rather a temporary alliance based on shared goals or interests. A coven may work together to plot schemes, spread curses, or wreak havoc on nearby settlements. However, a coven is also prone to infighting and betrayal, as each hag tries to gain more power or influence over the others. A coven may dissolve if one of the hags dies, leaves, or is replaced by another hag.

ECOLOGY

An Annis Hag is a creature of chaos and evil, who seeks to sow fear and misery wherever she goes. She has no respect for life or nature, and will kill or destroy anything that stands in her way. She feeds on the flesh and souls of her victims, especially children, who are more tender and innocent. She may also collect body parts or organs from her prey, either to use them for her magic or to graft them onto herself or her allies. She has a special hatred for good-aligned fey, such as nymphs or pixies, who oppose her wickedness.
