Building a living, breathing sector in Stars Without Number requires a Game Master to keep a vast web of information accessible at a moment’s notice. When the player party drops out of spike drill into an uncharted system, fumbling through raw generation notes to find the local Tech Level or the planetary friction points grinds the narrative momentum to a halt.
Following the rollout of our Vehicle and Starship datasheets alongside the official launch of the RPG Trader platform earlier this June, we are completing the logistical trinity. The Stars Without Number – World Datasheet is a dedicated, GM-facing record sheet built to track the complex sandbox elements of a newly generated planet and its surrounding sector.
Designed for the OSR Sandbox
A planetary sandbox is built on interconnected data. Our Design Editor, Raven Mont, structured this sheet to group related overarching concepts together, allowing Game Masters to read the mechanical and narrative realities of a world at a single glance.
Prepared specifically for the RPG Trader platform, the sheet is optimized for standard A4 physical printing, allowing you to build a comprehensive, tangible binder of your sector’s worlds.

Mechanical Layout and Sandbox Features
The World Datasheet removes the clutter from your GM screen by providing dedicated spaces for every critical planetary mechanic:
- System & Orbital Data: Establish the hard physical realities. Includes fields for World name, Star name, System name, Culture, Moons, Gravity factor, Revolution, and Rotation.
- SWN World Tags: The narrative engine of the system. Dedicated space for up to 3 World Tags, including sub-fields to detail specific instances for Enemies, Friends, Complications, Places, Things, and Custom elements.
- Planetary Conditions: Quick-reference areas mapped directly to the core rulebook structure for Atmosphere, Temperature, Biosphere, and Population.
- Tech Levels & Industry: Space to record the overarching Tech Level (TL). It strategically includes room to note multiple TLs if different geographic regions vary, alongside specific local or custom technologies.
- Societal & Political Web: Dedicated text areas to document active Factions & Relations, as well as overarching Polities & Trade Routes.
- Visual Mapping: A built-in hexagonal grid to map out the surrounding planetary area, orbital space, or lay down a 24-mile hex for localized ground prospecting.
Operational Tip: Use the Societal & Political Web section to map out immediate tensions. When the players inevitably disrupt a local trade route or anger a faction, you have the political fallout mapped and ready to trigger.
Summary
The Stars Without Number – World Datasheet is an essential A4 record sheet for Game Masters running sandbox campaigns. By organizing complex planetary generation data—from overarching Tech Levels to highly specific World Tag complications—it allows you to run your sector with absolute confidence and minimal mid-session referencing.
